Construction Projects OLDD Street Underpass Construction Project
The Idaho Falls Public Works Department began construction on the long awaited D Street Underpass project the week of March 25th, 2013. As a result, D Street is closed between Yellowstone Ave. and Eastern Ave. and will remain closed for the duration of the project which is expected to last until approximately June 2014. Elm St, Ash St, and S Boulevard are the primary recommended detour routes during this time as all efforts are being made to minimize the impact to traffic. Despite this, drivers should expect short delays and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. Birch Street and Eastern Avenue are closed to through traffic. Business access ONLY will be permitted in this area. This closure is for the public’s safety as crews will be using large equipment in these areas. We are asking bicyclists and pedestrians to avoid this area until construction is complete. The underground utility work in the intersection of Yellowstone Ave. and D Street was completed in April 2013. All lanes on Yellowstone Avenue are now open. Commenting on the project, Mayor Jared Fuhriman stated, “We are very excited to finally begin work on this project and are committed to getting the work done in as quick a manner a possible while minimizing the traffic impact and still providing good access to our local businesses”.
