Citizen Request DetailCitizen Request StatusIDCR-290 Submitted 08/24/10 Status Completed 08/25/10 Department Public Works Subject blocked sidewalks in road construction areas Description Lately I've noticed several locations where sidewalks were partially or completely blocked by road construction crews equipment and/or warning signs. These were in areas where the road was under construction, but the sidewalk was not. Examples include "New Traffic Pattern" signs along Holmes that were placed right in the middle of the sidewalk (near Walgreens), and planks and pipe left in the sidewalk at the railroad bridge on Hwy 20 near Johns Hole. In both cases, it was clear that there was no reason to block the sidewalk (e.g. signs could have been placed next to sidewalk), but the construction crew personnel probably just didn't give it much thought. Could the Streets Dept. please instruct road crews to avoid blocking the sidewalks unless it is necessary for the work being done? Thank you. Notes Most construction areas of more than a few days are done by private contractors who hire private firms to do traffic control, not the Street Department. The Engineerig Department normally reviews these projects and advises on the placement of the signs. In some areas, it is not possible to locate the signs in the street, since it would block traffic and locating them on private property is not an option. We will reivew the placement of the "New Traffic Pattern" signs to see if they can be relocated. The construction material on US 20 is being done under a ITD project and you should contact them with your concerns. 08/25/10 Return to Citizen Request Search |
