On Monday August 21st, we will join millions of Americans as we gaze at the sky – with viewing glasses of course – to witness a phenomenon that occurs on average once every 375 years in any one location on earth. Join us for The Great American Total Solar Eclipse Idaho Falls style. Our city has been designated an “Official NASA Observation Site” for the event. Experts predict attendance ranging anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000 in our region which includes “day-trippers” from neighboring states as well as tourists from across the globe.
Scores of local events have been planned to meet just about every educational and entertainment wish during the eclipse weekend, beginning with stock car racing on Friday and Saturday at Idaho Falls Raceway at Noise Park. The Idaho Falls Rotary Club will hold their annual Great Snake River Greenbelt Duck Race on Saturday, Aug. 19 to coincide with other eclipse-related events. After the Duck Race, a concert will be held at Sandy Downs featuring CMA “Duo of the Year” and Grammy-nominated “Best Country Duo/Group Performance,” Brothers Osborne. These are just a few of the events happening during the eclipse weekend.
