The City of Idaho Falls and Bonneville County have many waterways and associated hazards, coupled with the many uses of those from recreation and farming to producing power. The Idaho Falls Fire Department Swifter Water Rescue Team was officially founded in 2012 after one of our firemen attended Swift water Rescue Specialist training in Boulder Colorado. That knowledge was brought back to the Idaho Falls Fire Department and 12 members of the fire department were trained to level 1 technicians. In the past 5 years our team of technicians has grown to 21 on shift technicians as well as operations level for all on shift personnel. In the summer of 2017 the department will be sending 4 members back to Colorado to earn their level 2 technician as well as instructor for level 1 and 2. The Idaho Falls Fire Department Swift Water Rescue works very close with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Swift Water Rescue, Dive team, and Back Country Rescue. Our team trains throughout the year in both swift water and ice rescue. Twice a year the team must qualify by performing the International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists watermanship test. The Idaho Falls Fire Department performs multiple water rescues each year.
