Volunteer & Foster Opportunities

The Idaho Falls Animal Shelter and Animal Services are always looking for extra volunteers and fosters. We often need volunteers to help with cleaning kennels, keeping track of Community Cats, and socializing the animals at the shelter. We have an ongoing need for fosters for various animals, most often kittens and cats.

We are really looking for people to volunteer on an ongoing basis, rather than for single visits.

We prefer volunteers who can work with us on a repeated basis, as much of this job involves training and supervision.  If you are a person over the age of 18, who can volunteer your time on an ongoing basis, loves animals, and can work hard, we would love to have you join us.  If you are a person under the age of 18 and want to experience the joy of volunteering, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will be working with you side-by-side.

What To Do Before You Volunteer.

Before volunteers can work with the animals alone (Ex. Walking dogs, socializing, etc.) they must first complete a Liability Release.  They must also have been trained by either the long-term volunteer staff or the shelter staff.  Regular volunteer training takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:00 a.m.  If you are not able to come in during these times, please contact the shelter staff to arrange a time for the training, according to staff availability. Regular training times are preferred, and we may not be able to accommodate other training time requests.

The first step to volunteering at the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter is filling out the Volunteer Application form. To fill that out, CLICK HERE.

Idaho Falls Animal Services greatly appreciates all of our volunteers. We know that without you, due to the limited number of staff and the large number of animals, we would not be as successful in socializing the animals in our care.  Just think, you can even use this as an excuse to get to know your next fur-ever family member!

If you have any questions, please contact the Animal Shelter directly at (208)612-8670.
