[ARCHIVED] Idaho Falls Power Encourages Customers to Research Renewable Energies

Soloar panels

Renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, are peaking the interest of people throughout the nation, including residents in Idaho Falls. However, before purchasing or committing to any type of renewable energy source, Idaho Falls Power encourages  customers to do their homework.

“Customers need to understand the costs, the equipment needs and the rates and paybacks associated with renewable energy sources, along with other variables, before implementing it at their residence,” Idaho Falls Power General Manager Bear Prairie said. “To get that information, it’s best to start with your utility. This is especially important if customers want to get a complete look at our rates and potential payback for renewable energy.”

Energy specialists say there are generally three reasons why customers opt into using renewable energy sources:

  • They want to decrease their carbon footprint.
  • They seek a second energy source in cases of emergency.
  • They are looking for financial savings.

No matter what reason a customer considers a renewable energy, IFP is happy to work with customers on determining whether it is the best fit for them. IFP’s customers can schedule an appointment with our energy specialist who will provide a complete overview of their current energy consumption and electrical rates. They will then calculate the financial costs and savings.

If a customer does decide to install a renewable, IFP will also work with the customer to become part of the utility’s net metering program.

IFP’s net metering program is designed to allow customers to generate electricity with renewable energy sources while still maintaining connection to the city’s electrical grid, providing a reliable source of energy when the customer’s system is not generating sufficient energy to meet their demand for energy. The program also allows customers to offset their electricity consumption with the production of renewable energy and to deliver and sell excess electricity back to the city’s grid if their system generates more electricity than is needed.

IFP does not endorse and/or partner with any companies selling renewable energy products. The only advice the utility gives is for customers to do their research and select a company that best fits their needs.

To schedule an appointment or if you have questions, contact IFP at 208-612-8430 or visit our website at www.ifpower.org.
