The Idaho Falls Police Department recently honored five police officers with Commanders and Captains Commendation in recognition of acts of service above and beyond the call of duty.
Sgt. Jeremy Galbreaith, Officers Shawn Williams, Stetson Belnap, Kevin Goms and Justin Gramm were all recognized this past couple of weeks.
“Our officers are doing great things every day,” Idaho Falls Police Patrol Capt. Royce Clements said. “But, it’s really nice to recognize these officers for really highlighting the caliber of officers that serve in our community.”
Sgt. Galbreaith received the Commander’s Commendation for his leadership and support. He was specifically recognized for his leadership in an incident involving two wanted subjects jumping into the Idaho Canal while trying to flee from law enforcement.
One of the suspects attempted to pretend to be unconscious and quietly float away unnoticed. However, kept command of the scene and gave direction. When they found the suspect, Galbreaith was the first in the water to recover him from the water.
Officer Williams received the Commander’s Commendation for his efforts in attempting to save a life and comfort and support a mother in need. In December, Williams responded to a 911 hang up call. When no one answered the door at the residence, he continued to patrol the area and noticed a woman attempting to give aid to her unresponsive 21-year-old daughter.
Williams was able to assist the woman as they attempted to save the daughter’s life.
Officer Belnap received a Commander’s Commendation for his proactive police work that yielded three arrests and the seizure of one and a half pounds of Marijuana during a traffic stop in February. Belnap, despite his short time with the department, demonstrated his ability and motivation to conduct a solid investigation.
Officer Goms received a Captain’s Commendation for showcasing his natural leadership abilities, initiative and ingenuity in effectively using resources to make an extremely high number of arrests, particularly narcotic arrests.
Officer Gramm received a Captain’s Commendation for his above standard performance and dedication to his profession. Gramm is noted as taking initiative, showing pride in both his appearance and duties, being actively involved in community engagement and treating everyone – both internally and externally – with respect.
He was recently selected by 14 of his peers to serve on the IFPD SWAT Team.
