On May 28, 2020 at approximately 6:15 p.m., the Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatch to East 21st South for a report of smoke coming from the basement of a large four-story home.
Three engines, a ladder truck, three ambulances and a battalion chief responded. Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office responded, closing off East 21st South at North 45th East.
Upon arrival, firefighters noted orange smoke and flames coming from the basement of the 6,000 square foot home. The flames extended from the basement tresses and ceiling, along the floor joists, and into the first floor of the home.
Firefighters made access to the ceiling and were able to extinguish the fire shortly after arrival. They were able to keep the fire contained to the basement and first floor, but there was smoke damage throughout the home.
All occupants were able to evacuate the home safely. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The damage to the home was estimated at $150,000.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation by IFFD’s Fire Prevention/Inspection team.
