[ARCHIVED] House Fire on Everest

AltTextOn April 9, 2017 at 1:09 a.m., the Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched to 1980 Everest in Idaho Falls for a report of a structure fire in an attached garage of a single story private dwelling.

A total of 17 crew members were dispatched including Ladder 1, Engine 5, Engine 1, Ambulance 3, Ambulance 1, Ambulance 6, Battalion 1 and Chief 4.

Ladder 1 arrived to find heavy fire coming from the garage with significant fire exposure to the house next door. Engine 1 searched the homes and the garage and determined that everyone was out.

There were no injuries. A boy was upstairs in his room awake when he smelled smoke coming from the garage. The residents were able to self-evacuate prior to department arrival. One family was displaced. Residents in the neighboring home were not displaced.

Although the garage and contents were a total loss, crews were able to keep the fire contained to the garage and were able to keep it from extending into the house with the garage and the exposed house next door.

Estimated damage is approximately $90,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
