[ARCHIVED] Idaho Falls Regional Airport reminds travelers to plan ahead

IMG_0220

As more travelers return to the skies, the Idaho Falls Regional Airport (IDA) reminds everyone to arrive two hours before their scheduled departure.

This summer, IDA will have more flights with more destinations than ever before. With this increased service, our airport will see more passengers, creating a need for travelers to arrive earlier than in the past to ensure their traveling experience is pleasant.

“We are proud to offer such amazing flights and destinations through the premier airport destination in the region,” said Airport Director Rick Cloutier. “The improved airport experience results from our ongoing expansion efforts make visiting IDA the best it’s been for our patrons.”

Arriving two hours before scheduled departures will allow travelers enough time to park, check-in with the airline and proceed through Transportation Security Administration screening. Once at the gates, travelers will find an improved airport terminal with new restaurant offerings.

“With the renovations to IDA, our guests will find visiting our airport better than ever,” Cloutier said. “Customers will be able to enjoy free WI-FI, impressive views of the airport and improved dining options before heading to their destination.”

Passengers are also encouraged to pack smart before arriving at the airport. Knowing what you can or can’t pack in carry-on and checked luggage before arriving at the airport makes the screening process easier. IDA encourages travelers to visit the TSA "What Can I Bring?” tool here or at https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all.

People waiting to pick up passengers are asked to wait in the economy parking lot as vehicles are prohibited from waiting along the drop-off and pick-up curb. The area directly in front of the terminal is for individuals loading or unloading their vehicles.

IDA officials also remind travelers that airports are still under federal mask mandates, and all passengers must always wear masks both in air terminals and while flying. Passengers are also encouraged to check on their flights regularly online with their air carriers to be aware of flight schedules and delays.

“We are working very hard to make the traveling through our airport as comfortable and convenient as possible,” Cloutier said.  “We urge people to be patient and plan for a little extra time to get through lines. A little kindness and some preplanning will go a long way to helping make travel better for everyone.”

IDA is nearly finished with a $12 million 38,000-square-foot expansion project that has allowed IDA to bring more flights to the airport. The expansion project funded entirely by the Federal Aviation Administration’s Aviation Improvement Program has already added two new terminal gates and an improved Transportation Security Administration screening area.
