On May 9, 2017 at 8:56 p.m., the Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched to 1494 W. Carson Street in Idaho Falls for a report of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, crews found a garage/shop with an apartment attached on fire. Two rooms in the shop were fully involved. There were no occupants inside either structure.
Engine 5, ladder 1, ambulance 3, ambulance 5 and a battalion chief were dispatched and responded. Engine 1 was called for safety and additional assistance for an offensive attack. Engine 5 made an aggressive interior attack. Crews were able to quickly extinguish and overhaul the fire. A total of 14 firefighters responded.
There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
There was heavy damage to the shop addition attached to the garage. The estimated damage is $30K to the structure and $30K in tools and shop equipment.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
