City of Idaho Falls hires new Community Development Services Director

IDAHO FALLS – Wade Sanner will be the City of Idaho Falls’ newest Community Development Services Director after receiving an appointment from Mayor Rebecca Casper. 

The Idaho Falls City Council approved Sanner’s appointment which was effective on April 20. As director of Community Development Services, Sanner will oversee city planning and zoning. Sanner will also manage the building division and city grants administration staff. 

“Wade will have a pivotal role in the future of our city when it comes to planning and zoning and I have full confidence in his ability,” said Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper. “Wade has a tremendous record of professional experience and will certainly serve our community well for years to come."

Sanner, a certified planner with the American Planning Association, comes to the City of Idaho Falls after working as the Community Development Director for the City of Sheridan, Wyoming. He also gained experience in the planning departments of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Sandy City, Utah and Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Sanner holds a master’s degree in urban planning and a bachelor’s in public administration, both from the University of Kansas. 

“I look forward to this new chapter in my career and joining the City of Idaho Falls is a great honor,” Sanner said. “Idaho Falls is already a fantastic city and I appreciate the opportunity to look at the inevitable strategic growth, its challenges and developing creative solutions to keep our community a place everyone wants to be.” 

The Idaho Falls Planning Division has won numerous awards and is moving forward with the remarkable master plan known as “Imagine IF, a Plan to Move Idaho Falls Forward Together.” The Department will also work closely at the direction of the Mayor and City Council to ensure the community is addressing important issues such as smart growth and affordable housing.
