[ARCHIVED] McKenna, Marley & Trimble Promoted to Sergeant

Sgt.Patrick McKennaThe Idaho Falls Police Department is proud to announce the promotions of Patrick McKenna, John Marley and Brian Trimble to sergeant.

Idaho Falls Police Chief Mark McBride states, “After interviewing each candidate, I’m confident that those selected for promotion will provide quality leadership within the community as well as the department."  

Sergeant McKenna has worked for the department for 27 years. He has served in many capacities including criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, K-9 and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). He has served as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for new police officers and is a Certified Master Instructor.  McKenna received a Commanders Commendation in 2011 for three different major violent crimes.  Between 2003 and 2010, he received five other Commanders Commendations.

Sgt. John MarleySergeant Marley has been employed by the department for fifteen years and holds an advanced certificate from the Idaho Peace Officer’s Standards and Training (POST) Academy.  Throughout his career, he has attended more than 3,000 hours of training and has served as a patrol officer, neighborhood police officer, narcotics detective, SWAT team member, detective and as the Idaho Region 7 Bomb Squad Commander.  Marley received four Commanders Commendations between 2004 and 2008.

Sergeant Trimble began his career with the department in 2001. He has a Master’s Certificate from the POST Academy.  Over his years, he has worked in several capacities including patrol, neighborhood police officer, police training officer, firearms instructor, high liability instructor, Special Investigations Unit, and SWAT.

Sgt. Brian TrimbleTwenty-five individuals applied for the position. The sergeants performed the initial staff evaluations. The top twenty then advanced to a lieutenants’ scenario-based interview. The Chief and Captain then evaluated and interviewed the top ten candidates and made their selection.   

Each candidate was considered equally under the merits of the City Policy IX which states, “All promotions or upgrading to an advanced classification will be made on the basis of qualifications, ability, attitude, aptitude, education, performance and work habits. Everything else being equal, employees of longest service will be given preference.”
