Alleyway neighborhoods in Idaho Falls will receive shared 1.5 and/or 3-yard containers beginning Monday, Sept. 25. Alleyway residents are advised to begin using the new containers as soon as they arrive.
The new containers, which are part of the phased Sanitation Auto-Load Program, will be delivered to alleyway neighborhoods located between Lomax Street south to E. 17th Street and S. Boulevard east to S. Holmes Avenue. All residents in these areas are being notified of this change via door hanger notifications.
The phased Auto-Load Program converted approximately 4,500 residential homes to the automated system in 2015, followed by an additional 5,000 in 2016. The third, and final phase, converted 6,000 homes earlier this spring.
The City of Idaho Falls Public Works Department initiated a study in 2014 to evaluate the opportunity for converting the curbside pick-up service to an auto-load program. The program was then approved and implemented in a phased approach as funds became available to acquire necessary equipment.
There have been many benefits of the program since inception, including higher staff efficiency rates, lower overall operating expenses, reduction in litter on streets prior to pick-up, reduction in staff-related injuries with resultant reduction in workman’s compensation claims, and wheeled garbage containers that are easier to handle for residents.
Auto-Load System Requirements:
- Only place household trash and yard waste in the containers.
- Do not place brush in containers.
- Do not place large bulk items in containers.
- No waste outside of the container will be collected.
- Keep lids closed at all times.
To schedule pick-up of large items or brush, or for additional information about the auto-load program, contact the Sanitation Division at (208) 612-8491.
