Idaho Falls Police continue to investigate the shooting death of a 26-year-old Bonneville County man at a residence in the 200 block of Moonlite Drive Sunday afternoon.
Based on the information gathered at this time, it’s possibly a case of self-defense. However, the IFPD has not made a final determination in this case as the investigation is still on-going.
Police responded to the incident around 1:57 p.m. after reports of shots being fired. Officers arrived and found the 26-year-old man deceased inside an apartment.
Officers detained a 34-year-old Bonneville County man, who reported the shooting to police, for questioning. After cooperating with the police investigation, he was released from police custody. He is not believed to be a threat to the community.
An autopsy of the deceased man is currently underway in Boise.
Names of the deceased and the 34-year-old man are being withheld at this time at the discretion of the City of Idaho Falls Attorney.
