Idaho Falls, ID – At approximately 4:45 PM on January 4th, Idaho Falls Police responded to a call about a disturbance. Officers located the woman near the intersection of E 21st Street and S Boulevard, who was driving a red Mitsubishi Eclipse. The woman initially stopped her vehicle and briefly spoke with police, but during the conversation, she drove away. Officers suspected she may have been highly intoxicated. Police did not initiate a vehicle pursuit, but drove in the general direction the woman fled.
The woman continued driving Southbound on Boulevard, passed into the opposing lane of travel and continued into the Stonebrook subdivision. Near the intersection of Stonebrook Lane and Stonebrook Place, the woman hit another vehicle, swerved and collided head-on with a tree. The woman was ejected from her vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
While Officer Bierma of the IFPD performed CPR on the female victim, the male driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene on foot. Emergency medical service providers transported the female victim to EIRMC. Idaho State Police arrived at the scene to assist the IFPD in investigating the accident.
Updates:
- Investigators have identified the male driver who fled the scene as 36 year old Miguel Angel Renovato.
- Drug paraphernalia was found in the Dodge Stratus Renovato was driving at the time of the accident.
- Renovato has an active warrant through the Colorado Department of Corrections for a parole violation.
