[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire on 13th Street

Structure Fire 13th StreetIdaho Falls, ID:  On January 9, 2018 at approximately 4:10 p.m., the Idaho Falls Fire Department was dispatched to the 100 block of 13th Street for a report of a structure fire with heavy smoke.

Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from a small garage attached to a single family home.

The homeowner was in the garage at the time the garage caught fire and was able to escape. There were no other occupants in the home. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.  Structure Fire_13th Street_Idaho Falls Power

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and prevent it from reaching the home.

The Idaho Falls Police Department closed down a portion of 13th Street to traffic. Idaho Falls Power was also dispatched to address a power line burned by the fire.   

Initial reports indicate that the homeowner was working on a Corvette inside the garage when the fuel from the vehicle came in contact with a nearby space heater.   

The initial estimated cost of the damage, including all contents of the garage, is $85,000.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department reminds community members to keep safety in mind when working in enclosed areas with space heaters or other heat sources.
