[ARCHIVED] Public Notice – Speed Limit Changes in Idaho Falls

Speed Limit ChangesIdaho Falls, ID –Several speed limit changes within Idaho Falls were approved at the December 21, 2017 City Council Meeting.

The speed limit will remain 35 mph all year round on Rollandet Avenue, between 21st Street and Sunnyside Road.

The speed limit was increased from 35 mph to 40 mph on Holmes Avenue, between 17th Street and Sunnyside Road.

The speed limit on John Adams Parkway, between Holmes Avenue and 25th East will increase from 25 mph to 30 mph. Speed limit signs on this roadway will be updated the week of January 29-February 2.

A fourth speed limit change will not be introduced until construction activities on Boulevard are complete later this fall.

The recommendations for these changes were based on data collected and evaluated by engineers in the Public Works Department to determine appropriate speeds for roadways in Idaho Falls.

The proposed changes were initially discussed at a City Council Work Session prior to taking them to the public. The Council approved taking the matter to the public. Notice was then made to the public, and citizens were encouraged to submit comments about the proposed changes. The Traffic Safety Advisory Committee entered the comments into consideration at a public meeting held on December 12.

On December 21, Public Works presented the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee recommendations, public comments and department engineer’s recommendations to the City Council. Upon review of all data presented, the City Council voted to approve the resolution changing the various speed limit proposals.
