[ARCHIVED] “Spirit Ride” coming to Idaho Falls Friday to raise awareness of “move over” laws

atspiritride.comWhat's The Spirit Ride?  (From atspiritride.com)
Many are calling the Spirit Ride America's Traveling Memorial Day for First Responders. Founded by American Towman Magazine and B/A Products, the Ride's mission is to promote public awareness of the Move Over laws while honoring fallen first responders killed on the roadside. In 2017, the Spirit ceremonial casket was relayed in 140 cities. By the end of 2018, it will have relayed in 300 cities, involving processions of 10,000 tow trucks, fire trucks, EMS and police vehicles.

Idaho Falls, ID – Local businessman and Wyatt Pickering and his team will assist the American Towman Spirit Ride in transporting an empty casket from Idaho Falls to its next stop in the trek across the nation. Pickering owns two local businesses, Lindsay Truck & Towing and Sunkiss Enterprises

The Spirit Ride brings awareness to “move-over” laws and is similar to a passing of a baton across the nation—only it’s the passing of an empty casket from tow truck to tow truck.

Lindsay Truck & Towing has agreed to take delivery of the casket (arriving from Pocatello) tomorrow morning and drive all the way to Dillon, Montana to transfer it to the next stop. Idaho’s “move-over” law is outlined in Idaho Code § 49-624.

Pickering invites and encourages any and all members of the community to attend the ceremony tomorrow morning.

  • The gathering will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Sunkiss Towing & Collision, located at 2271 E. Lincoln Road.
  • At 11:00 a.m., the empty casket will be transferred to the new roll-back tow truck and will proceed on to its next stop.

Idaho Falls Police are grateful for this meaningful reminder of how important it is to “move over,” and most importantly, to honor and remember those whom have lost their lives due to drivers who did not move over. We’d like to thank American Towman Magazine, Lindsay Truck & Towing and all of the partners across this great nation for participating and for bringing attention to this important issue.
