Career:
For the past 26 years, Shelly Smede has served in various roles for Idaho Falls School District 91. After almost a decade teaching middle school English, she spent another nine years at the district level working on curriculum and professional development. She managed a federal budget as Professional Development Coordinator and served on the district negotiating team for two years. 

From 2008-2013, Smede served as Vice Principal at Eagle Rock Middle School. She is currently the Dean of Students at Compass Academy, a magnet school serving grades 9-12. Her students and colleagues at Compass Academy are a huge and important part of her life. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho in 1991 and a Master’s in Administration from Idaho State University in 2003.

Family:
Shelly is married to Steve Smede, Editor at Harris Publishing downtown. She has two beautiful adult daughters, Sheridan Smede and Gibson Smede. Shelly’s parents, Lance and ZoeAnna Hall, still reside in Goshen, Idaho where Shelly was raised and attended Firth School District K-12. She has a brother, Tharon, who lives in Idaho Falls, and a sister, Colene, who lives in Arizona.

Some of Steve and Shelly’s favorite Idaho Falls activities are cycling on the numerous bike paths around town and attending Chukars games at Melaleuca Field.

Shelly is a strong believer in the power of collaboration, connection, and interdependence. She enjoys working with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds and learning something new every day.?
