2. What are the business hours of the Idaho Falls Police Department?

The Idaho Falls Police Department is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday excluding all major holidays. Our Patrol division and Dispatch operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

3. How do I contact the Police Department?

In an emergency, dial 911. This number applies for any police, fire, or ambulance emergency. For all non-emergency calls requiring police assistance, call 208-529-1200. View other contact information for the department.

4. Can the police really do all that stuff I see on C.S.I. and other TV shows?

Some of the things shown on television shows are not possible in real life. They are meant to be entertaining to the viewers. The procedures that are real such as DNA and other forensic tests are possible but take longer periods of time to get results. Some results may take 6 months or more. The whole C.S.I. field is changing rapidly and we are aggressively pursuing new C.S.I. technology.

5. How is Neighborhood Watch organized?

The Idaho Falls Police Department supports the implementation of Neighborhood Watch groups in our Community. Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of residents in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime, solve problems, and improve the quality of life in your area. Your neighborhood watch group becomes the “eyes and ears” of the police and we work with you to help solve the problems in your neighborhood.

6. We would like a speaker for our meeting. Who do we call?

Giving us a few weeks notice will likely ensure we are able to provide the information and personnel that you require. If you would like someone to speak or teach a class at a meeting, please contact Joelyn Hansen.

7. I am interested in having my child safety seat inspected to make sure it was installed correctly. Does the Idaho Falls Police provide this service?

Our traffic division has Officers that are qualified to inspect child safety seats. Please contact Special Services Division, Sergeant Alan Bowers to set up an appointment.

8. How do I get a Vacation Watch on my house while I am gone?

If you are leaving the area and would like one of our Citizens Watch Patrol to check in on your home from time to time, please contact Joelyn Hansen.

9. How do I become part of the Citizens Watch program?

10. I bought a used car and need to have the VIN inspected before I can register it. How can I get a VIN inspection?

You can make an appointment to have your VIN inspected by a Bonneville County Sheriff by calling 208-529-1350 or contacting dispatch.

11. When does a traffic accident report have to be completed?

The Idaho Falls Police department will respond to any accident where property damage or injury has occurred. By Idaho Statute, any vehicle accident that produces damage to any one vehicle of $1,500 or more, or has any injuries, will require a full accident report. In accidents that have damage of less than $1,500 to any one vehicle, an Officer may complete an “Exchange of Information” form so all parties have information for their insurance companies.

12. I just moved to Idaho. When do I have to obtain an in state driver's license and vehicle registration?

Any holder of a class A, B or C commercial driver’s license issued by a jurisdiction other than Idaho shall apply for an Idaho-issued commercial driver’s license within 30 days of establishing a domicile in Idaho. If you have established a domicile in Idaho, you are required to register your vehicle in Idaho as well.

13. What are the penalties for impaired (D.U.I.) driving in Idaho?

For the first offense (misdemeanor), up to a $1,000 fine and up to 6 months imprisonment and your driving privileges will be suspended for up to 150 days.

14. How many officers are in the Department?

The Idaho Falls Police department has 91 sworn Officers and 42 civilians including our dispatch center and Animal Control services.
